Downer EDI says the delivery of its first Waratah train has been further delayed because it cannot get enough access to train tracks for testing.
The company announced last month the first Waratah train would be delivered to Railcorp by the end of December.
However, Railcorp advised the deadline to have the new trains ready for passenger service by then would be missed because there was not enough time to conduct proper safety testing.
Downer EDI's CEO Grant Fenn has today announced to the stock exchange that, while testing is going well, they have been unable to get access to the track during the lead up to Christmas and New Year.
Mr Fenn says a small number of tests will be now be finished in January before the train will be presented to Railcorp.
He says the delay is not expected to impact on the delivery schedule for the 77 remaining train sets.
