A central Victorian miner says gold production at its Bendigo site could end by the middle of next year.
Bendigo Mining is holding its annual general meeting in the city today.
Shareholders are being told that despite years of expensive exploration work at the Kangaroo Flat mine, gold reserves are starting to run out.
The company says exploration is continuing, but that without further gold discoveries, production at the mine will finish around the middle of next year.
The mine runs more than one kilometre deep under Bendigo.
Today's meeting is also considering a proposal to change the company's name from Bendigo Mining to Unity Mining.
The company is reporting an $11 million profit for the past financial year.
